Does anyone have any documentation guidelines for billing this code? Does the patient have to have metastatic cancer to use this code or if they are looking at other areas outside thyroid bed and they appear to be normal.
When radioiodine uptake measurement is performed in areas of thyroid metastatic disease outside of the thyroid region identified on scan, the add-on code 78020 should be reported in conjunction with code 78018.
I interpret this to mean when the report indicates uptake in the liver and also noted in the abdomen that we can add the 78020. Is that how you would interpret it?
