I am new to OB coding and my question is if my practitioner is present in the hospital but documents the actual delivery was "Nurse-controlled", am I able to charge for this delivery or do I charge only the prenatal and postnatal services the doctor did perform? It appears this patient delivered with one push and the doctor had not made it to the room yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

According to the guidelines on p.312 of CPT 2103 Professional Edition, "If all or part of the antepartum and/or postpartum patient care is provided except delivery ...referral to another physician or other qualified health care professional for delivery, see the antepartum and postpartum care codes 59425, 59426, and 59430."

Given this Guideline, it seems to me the best you can do is to code for the antepartum and postpartum care codes.
