Hello everyone

My physician has a nurse practitioner that sees patients in the hospital. I bill for the visits at the office with the POS 21, but my physician asked me about billing for the nurse practitioner as well. Do I bill for both for the same DOS?

Nurse Practioner Billing

If your NP is seeing patients at the hospital by his/herself then you can ONLY bill the service under the NP's NPI. In order for you to bill the doctor he/she would also have to see and examine the patient on the SAME day. This is called split/shared under Medicare guidelines. Hope this helps.
