We have a family physician (MD) & a nurse practitioner (NP) in our practice. They both see patients at our local nursing home. When our NP sees these patients usually the physician is not in the nursing home building or on the campus at all (he is in our the office seeing patients). We are billing these circumstances under the NP's #'s (NPI, etc.), is this correct? Can someone direct me to some black & white print that says we are doing this correctly or how to bill this correctly?

You are correct ot bill these using the NPs number. Obviously you cannot bill using a provider number that is not onsite. You can check the CMS manual for this as they have much to say on the subject. There is the incident to issues.. MCM section 2050, and the shared services CR 1776. I am not sure why you would doubt that you are correct.
