I've read Medicare requires NPs to act in a management capacity to ongoing treatment plans set up by the physicians. We have four NPs who sees patients in follow up regularly, but recently I've seen our practice schedule consultations with them. We're a specialist group.

Is this ruled by payor or state guidelines? We're in Indiana.

Just curious how other practices are utilizing their NPs!

Medicare no longer recognizes the consultation codes, but as far as other payers, I would check with them individually.
When Medicare did accept consult codes, they allowed NPs to perform them.
