My physicians are discussing an on call arrangement (to share call) with another OB group here in town; has anyone done this and how did you handle billing? I am concerned about us not being credentialed with the all/same payers and if we deliver one of their patients the delivery could be processed out of network. I know I have read where some groups have a contract and they bill the global charge (even though the other group delivers the patient) and they pay the "fee" per the contract to the delivering physician. I just can't see how this is legit, billing under a physician that didn't actually deliver the patient? Anyone?

Our office does this. I have literally no idea about the legality of it, but I know our doctor consulted his lawyer first and there is a written agreement that both offices signed. I'd recommend they consult their lawyer first. I'm sure it's ok to do because our doctor is VERY thorough in his research. Sorry I can't be of more help.
