I am trying to figure out how to code gestational diabetes in pregnancy that is controlled by oral meds. I am only finding in ICD10 controlled by insulin or diet or unspecified ? Would oral meds be considered controlled by insulin? Anyone have any info on this? Thank you!

Diet controlled vs medication controlled diabetes

I like to be sure to think of this as a difference in insulin dependent vs non insulin dependent diabetes. The essential differentiation is whether or not they require insulin. If they require insulin, of course they are insulin dependent. If they are on oral medications they are considered diet controlled with use of oral medications and NOT insulin dependent. As for coding there is no code for oral medication controlled alone. I.e. It is diet controlled (on oral medications or not) or insulin dependent. :D
