OB patient had a 3rd degree laceration, which required the Dr. to take her to OR for repair. This is a global maternity insurance, can I bill this separately? If so what CPT code do I use? Also, the first repaired was bleeding& broken down & was again taken back to OR by a different physician the next day. Thanks for the help.

Repair of third- or fourth-degree lacerations at the time of delivery may be reported in one of the following ways: Use of a CPT integumentary section code; (e.g., 12041-12047 or 13131-13133) OR by adding modifier 22 to the delivery code reported

We generally add the mod 22 to the delivery code. You can use one of the repair codes + modifier for the subsequent repair.

Thank you Cmama12 for your response! I am learning too from your experience.:) I confirm that for repair of 3rd degree laceration during a delivery by the same MD, we add a modifier -22. If the repair done by another MD, we use 59300.
