Can anyone tell me the correct way to bill when a patient has been admitted to observation care and within the 48 hours is admitted to the hospital. Is the observation admit billed, and not the hospital admit, then subsequent care and hospital discharge.

The observation hours and charges can be billed for along with the inpatient admission. Typically, insurance will cover up to 48 hours of observation prior to an inpt admission.
