Hello! Our practice is ready to add on our first occupational therapist, and need some assistance with proper coding. We are a mental health practice. Through searches, I've found the evaluation codes 97165/97166/97167 as well as codes 97129/97530/97633. The type of therapy the OT will be providing is for clients of ours with ADHD to get added support around their behavioral health sessions. Will the evaluation codes apply to us, or is it more appropriate to bill with the second set of codes? Thank you in advance for any experience you can share!

I believe that if they OT is performing everything that is required to be documented in the evaluations, then it should be ok to go ahead and code the evaluation codes; however, if the OT is only performing the therapy modalities and not performing an evaluation, then they should not code the evaluation codes.
