Hello

I am looking for help understanding the rules for when my doctors can bill for services when they are on call. The big issue is when they are covering for a weekend and they see a patient who is post-op from a surgery performed by another general surgeon. I believe that since they are on call they must bill as the other surgeon would, therefore we would not bill that service. They think that the service should be billable. There are no reciprocal billing arrangements in place. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I don't want them to miss out on revenue but I don't want to be fraudulently billing either. Thank you!

Hi

Thank you for responding to my question. My problem arises when they are covering for another physician outside of our practice. For example if a surgeon from another practice has a patient in the hospital post op from a surgery but my surgeon is covering that surgeon for the weekend can any services be billed?
