What date of service is reported for Online Digital E/M? Do you report the date the patient contacted the provider by portal message or the date communication ended?

We report the DOS as the day the provider 1st responded to the message. Many times the message will come after hours and they answer the message the next day.

Since the code covers a 7 day period and the time is cumulative during those 7 days, I believe the provider needs to document the actual time spent on the portal message(s) each day during that 7 day period.
