Hi,

I have a physician that is looking for a code for an ALL knee surgery. (Anterior Lateral Ligament) The code it keeps throwing me to is for an ACL surgery and he says that is not the same surgery he is doing on this particular ligament. I am looking for an open code for this procedure so that we can bill this properly on the surgeons side and our surgery center.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Kimmy

Your code will depend on how the repair is made

Your doctor is right, these codes are never used for the ACL or PCL.

The ACL & PCL are intra-articular ligaments. Basically speaking, all others are extra-articular or outside of the knee joint.

If the ALL is pulled off of its insertion and needs to be reattached, or, reefing is done for the repair, your best code is 27405.

If the doctor has to REPLACE the ligament with a graft, and you will know this because he will drill two tunnels and anchor the graft down, then 27427 is your answer.

This assumes the procedure is performed open.
