Good morning, fellow coders. I'm wondering if someone might be able to help me out. Our large group practice recently took over an Ophthalmologist and now an Optometrist. We have several coders in our department, but none with any experience with these specialties at all. It seems like a whole different world. Does anyone have any suggestions as to reference materials, seminars, or other educational opportunities that might give us a better understanding of what we're doing? Is there somewhere I can go to find examples of intermediate and comprehensive eye exams (92002, 92004, 92012 & 92014)? Any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated.

ophthalmology and optometrist coding

I work also for a very large facility--2 ophthalmologist and 3 optometrists w/ several satellite facilities. A great source of information is the American Academy of Ophthalmology (www.aao.org). They also have great seminars, etc. Good Luck! It really is a fascinating area. I was in family practice for 11 years boy this was a change of pace.
