When a client is on opioids, sedatives, hypnotics, what does dependence refer to. Is it the fact that they take (opioids for instance) every day for chronic pain.
 
do not use the F code for drug dependence unless documented as a drug habit the patient is need of getting off of. These are for psychological dependence not therapeutic dependence. When a patient is being therapeutically prescribed a narcotic for the purpose of chronic pain relief this is not drug dependence as an F code it is long term opioid use as a Z79 code
