When an established 10 year old patient comes in, only for an injection of DTP (diptheria, tetanus toxiod, pertussis) and an oral poliovirus vaccine, which are preformed by the nurse, do you code separate IM injection AND oral vaccine (90471, 90473) or IM injection plus additional vaccine (90471, +90472)?

I believe you would code the 90471 with the DTP and a 90474 with the oral vaccine. In the CPT book it explains that the 90474 is used just like the 90472 only w/ an oral vaccine, as an additional code. The 90473 would be used if it is the initial oral vaccine, just like the 90471. I hope this helps.
