Can an ultrasound guided injection be billed under a Nurse Practitioner? Our clinic is in the process of buying an ultrasound probe. Our Doctor shared he thought at one time the ultrasounds could only be performed and billed under a physician, not a nurse practitioner. Can you please verify? The guided ultrasound would be performed on shoulder, knee, hip, elbow and tendon injections. Our Doctor stated he would also perform simple ultrasound.
 
You would need to check the scope of practice for your state first. It also depends on the training they have received. The same is true for PAs.
After that you would want to check your payer contracts and other payer guidelines such as CMS manuals, etc.
