I am seeing a lot of providers document the diagnosis of Osteoporosis as "based on (current) fragility fracture". Is this them linking the current fracture to a new diagnosis of Osteoporosis and can I code it as such?

You would code it as Osteoporosis with current pathological fracture, which is the same as fragility fracture. The code is in the M80.0-M80.8 section depending on whether this is age related, if patient had an injury that caused the fracture or something else
