With Medicare's guideline stating audiology testing must be performed by a qualified audiologist, is there ever an instance where a physician could bill for an otogram performed in the office setting? Is this an insurance carrier specific requirement meaning some insurance would follow different guidelines? Most patients are referred off for this test but occasionally my physician will perform the otogram during the office visit?

If the physician performed the test herself, she should bill as the rendering provider. If the audiologist performed the test, he should bill as the rendering provider and list the ordering physician information as the referring provider.
