Hello, I have an LAVH converted to a TAH. Surgery was performed on 05/18 and inpatient admission is listed as 05/19. Should this be billed as an inpatient or outpatient claim? And if it is inpatient can I use the date of surgery as the admit date?

If it became a major open surgery, the hospital should have admitted the patient on 5/18.
Are you coding for the surgeon? Facility?
I bill for the surgeon, and in my experience, the insurance authorization may need to be updated and the facility and profee claims should all reflect what was actually performed, not what was originally planned.
