We are in a specialist office setting. Patient presented his Medicare card along with Physician Mutual Plan G and Cigna Plan F, both Medicare supplement plans. After Medicare processes as primary, they crossed over the claim to BOTH supplement plans. Both supplement plans processes the claim as secondary. Now I've received two payments for same amount, causing an overpayment in patient's account. Reached out to patient and educated them on having (or rather no need) dual supplement plans. Patient was not aware of double benefits (and double premiums) and will address it. Patient plans to review both plans/premiums and make a decision to keep one and discontinue the other. Patient was also told to contact Medicare with his decision and remove the discontinued supplement plan off his COB record.

Meantime......we have an overpayment and not quite sure which supplement plan to refund. The plan that the patient will be discontinuing? The older of the two? Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.
