Hi, looking for help in billing for a Physician Assist. Our Orthopedict surgeon has a PA working in his office. At this point in time, both the physician and the PA are seeing the patients. I cannot find a modifier to use to indicate that one of the doctors is a PA, I did mark him as a mid-level provider, is that all I need to do. Also, if both doctors see the pt and the pt has a copay, how do I handle that, are we supposed to take a copay for both visits. Thanks for your help.

Are the doc and PA both seeing the patient on the same day for the same reason? Sounds like that falls under "incident-to" guidelines...in which case there is only 1 visit billed, so only 1 copay charged.

ok, thanks. also can you tell me, can we bill incident to for medicare patients? from what I am reading, it looks like we can't bill diagnostic testing as incident to, but can bill the E/M, is that correct?
