Can someone please clarify for me which V code is used when the patient has both a Pacemaker and a AICD? I have referred to the Coding Clinic and it is not addressed and my 3M Encoder gives me a coding error when both are entered.

Very much appreciated,

do you mean if they have a pacemaker generator on the left side and an ICD generator on the right side? if so that is extremely rare and I would use both V45.01 and V45.02.

pacemakers can only pace, ICDs can shock and pace so if it is a "pacing" ICD (which all of them are) then just V45.02 would be appropriate.
