Hi,
I have just learned that I will be coding for our new pain clinic. This is a new specialty for me, I currently code for OB-GYN and Urgent Care. If anyone has any helpful hints/links it would be very much appreciated.

I would review the local coverage determination policies for Facet joint injections, Epidurals, Trigger Point Injections, Vertebroplasty/Vertebral Augementation, and SI Joint Injections.

I would purchase AMA CPT Assistant online subscriptions. There is a lot coding references for pain management in that publication. I would also make sure you have the AMA CPT professional manual which has additiional guidance that the Optum book is not able to contain.

I also saw this book by Decision Health Advanced Guide for Coding Pain Management Procedures, 2013. The Decision Health Pain Management Decisions online program is also good.

This is an excellent source. When I began learning about pain management this was my first teacher! You may need to get a copy of the latest Relative Value Guide published by the ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists)

Finally, brush up on your nervous system and musculoskeletal system anatomy.
