There is a discussion going on in the office if palliative services while pt in SNF. Palliative and therapy services are billed under Medicare Part B. Skilled nursing services in a facility are billed under Medicare Part A
If a patient is receiving skilled care under Medicare A, then palliative services may still be provided, but they must be billed as consultative—similar to the process used in the inpatient hospital setting. If the patient is not under a Medicare A skilled stay, then we can proceed with standard billing for palliative care under Medicare B. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
