Can anyone explain why a provider would add an HPV test to a pap smear, especially after reviewing the pap smear result (which looks fine--negative)? Thank you

You can find ACOG's guidelines for screening in this very excellent article at: https://www.acog.org/clinical/clini.../updated-cervical-cancer-screening-guidelines. They do recommend screening for HPV between the ages of 30-65 every 5 years as you will see in the chart that accompanies the article.
