I've read that parainfluenza is not the same virus as influenza. The only codes I see to code confirmed parainfluenza involves pneumonia. How would you code a patient who is confirmed parainfluenza 1 positive?
I would use B34.8. According to my 3M Encoder software, when I type in "parainfluenza" it leads me to B34.8. According to the below article, parainfluenza viruses are not the same as flu viruses.
