A physician assistant in our office did a trigger point injection in the paraspinal lumbar muscle. Would the proper billing be CPT 20553 instead of CPT 20552?
 
The paraspinal muscles are made up of three muscle groups that support the back: Did he inject all three? If so it would be 20553.

  • Iliocostalis: The lateral column
  • Longissimus: The intermediate column
  • Multifidus: The medial column
