I currently work for a health insurance company, I work mainly in the area of testing system upgrades and processes. I do not interact with members or providers.

I recently completed my CPC and COC and got a part-time job doing HCC coding at home. The coding company is not a business partner of the health insurance company - there is no relationship between the 2. As far as I'm aware, the coding company does not work with any other insurance company in my area, and their home office is across the country.

Would anyone consider this a conflict of interest?

Thanks,

I have to get authorization from the payer I work for before I can even accept an offer for a second job. You may want to run by the payers corporate compliance department for guidelines. Working for an HCC company you may be working on behalf of another payer and that's where the problems can start. Or the HCC company may have trademarked methods they don't want shared with a payer.
