Hi all
I am new to the forum and I was wondering if I can get some expert help.
My surgery center manager added pathology services to our surgery center so that we can process our pathology specimens and bill for them. Honestly, this is new to me. Is it possible to bill for pathology specimens out of surgery center and if so do we bill globally or only technical fee. Please advise

You can only bill for pathology if your contracts specifically say it or let them know and they do an amendment. If you are doing the tests and the physician is your employee you would bill globally. If you are just doing the technical portion you can only do the TC portion. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply.
I'll try to amend our contracts. My goal is to bypass our local IPA and deal directly with insurance carriers by billing globally. Is that possible?
The pathologist is an employee at the surgery center, so he'll get paid from the center.
Would insurance carriers accept the surgery center as a place of service?

You will need to check with your reps. And yes you will be able to bill globally because your physician is an employee. Good Luck, hope it goes well!:)
