Does anyone any suggestions for finding modifer info on billing pathology codes?? I need to find out whether or not we can bill a single tissue biopsy that was cut into 3 sections and billed 3 times with a 59 modifier.
Someone mentioned that b/c it's the same anatomical site and not a different site, it can be billed 3 times but with a 76 mod. Please clarify!
Thanks

If the surgeon designates it as one specimen only, it is generally irrelevant how many time it has been cut. However, there are exceptions. Do you have the case information? I am a coder for a pathology lab and might be able to help you.
