This is my first time coding Pathology, especially molecular cytogentics and I was wondering if there are specific guidlelines when coding these. For example, a FISH procedure study was performed with two different probes (DNA probe cocktail and locus-specific DNA probe). The physician is doing the interpretation and report.
My question is, do I have to code the interpretation (88291) in conjuction with 88271x2 for both probes? And, does the number of cells analyzed(for instance, 10-30 cells) included in 88271? or do I code it separately using 88273?
Targeted triple color fluorscence in situ hybridization (FISH) studies were performed to assess the chromosome copy number of chromosomes 5,9, and 15 in plasma cells, using DNA probe cocktail....
Targeted dual color fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) studies were performed to assess the presence or absence of chromosome 13 long arm sequence in plasma cells using a locus-specific DNA probe.....[/I]
Based on the aformetioned documentation, I would have coded:
