I am having issues getting my pathology paid. Our physician preps and reads his own pathology but on occasion will send one out for consultation. When he sends the lab out for consultation we only charge for the technical component of the pathology. I am having my issue when it is more than one pathology and he reads one and sends one out. I am billing two line items 88305 on the first one for the full reading and a 88305 with the modifiers 91 TC for the second line item. The first line item is getting paid but the second one is not and is being denied for incorrect coding. Should I be billing this differently?
