Hi. When our physicians treat patients in the hospital, sometimes that patient does not follow up in our office and the only info we have is from the hospital. I am trying to find out if we are able to bill for services without having any patient information sheets on file. We do send the sheets out to the patient, however they are not always returned to us. Please advise. Thank you!

Not sure I understand

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "patient information sheets."

If your physician has seen the patient in the hospital, then the physician is entitled to bill for those professional services. The hospital can share with you all the admission information to include the patient's full name, contact info, responsible party, insurance, etc. This does NOT require any HIPAA release of information.

Hope that helps.
