Is there any rule that states the time frame for a patient refund in regards to accounts over 3-5 years old? Doing financial audits of old accounts and have found patient credits
that are up to 5 years old. Can we make our own policy or is there a rule already out there somewhere?
Thanks for the info in advance.

I suspect that will vary from state to state. I'd check to see what your state requires to be sure you're complying with state law.

If you're unable to reach the patient to process a refund, your state may require you to send the overpayments to the state unclaimed funds department.

Do you know where I can find the information on how to send the overpayments to the state unclaimed funds department?
