Hi,
some any one can clarify this doubt,

CPT code for the modified radical mastectomy is 19307 (Mastectomy, Modified Radical, Including Axillary Lymph Nodes, w/ Or w/o Pectoralis Minor Muscle) & 19306(Mastectomy, Radical, Including Pectoral Muscles, Axillary And Internal Mammary Lymph Nodes)

Why excision of pectoral muscle comes in 19307& 19306 series why not in 20000 series, my doubt is like all the muscle related and Bone related codes are comes under 20000 series why this excision of pectoral muscle along with mastectomy not comes under 20000 series

please clarify
Thank you

Yes, those are muscles and you can raise that question as to why not in the musculoskeletal system subsection. CPT is divided into sections and each sections are divided into subsections. Integumentary subsection is divided into headings and one of the headings is BREAST which is asigned cpt codes from the 1000 series. The procedure mastectomy is carried out according to the surgeon's decision with or without the excision of the pectoralis muscles(major/and or minor) as you can see here the removal of these muscles is included in the code description for the mastectomy which forbids you to separately code for their removal. They are under their parent procedure radical mastectomy or modified radical mastectomy hope this removes your doubt.
