I need to know the proper way to bill for a pediatric surgeon who did a "consult" on a patient who is still in the gestational period. Baby will require surgery after delivery

Patient is the mother

You will code the appropriate type and level of E/M as per documentation. The mother will be your patient for billing purposes. The referring physician is probably her OB/GYN.

Hope that helps.

The mother was admitted for polyhydramnios and the baby was found to have a duodenal obstruction, which is why the ped surgeon was called in. So if I understand you correctly, I should only code the dx of 657.03. Mother did not deliver during admission to hospital.

Thanks for the help!!
