I have been asked by one of our speciality clinics as to what they should bill when they go to the Hospital when one of their patients is in the Infusion care Unit for bleeding and thrombocytopenis. They are documenting a complete History, Exam, and Medical Decision making plan. I have been told this could be charged by the Pediactric Dr that goes to the hospital as an Observation level but then the more I read I am wondering if it should be coded out with Established Patient (other outpatient vist) code instead. Please verify the correct way for this group of Doctors.

Infusion care

The patient is being seen as an outpatient so now I feel the Doctors should probably be billing as an outpatient level (99212-99215) depending on the level of care. Please verify for me that is correct.
Thanks

That is how I would do it as long as the patient is not an inpatient or an observation patient. In otherwords the patient is transported in some manner to the outpatient clinic where your physician sees them..
