After reading the NCCI guidelines for gastroenterology I see that when a peg tube has been placed for a patient while undergoing radiation therapy and then removed by the same physician after treatment it should not be reported because it is considered part of the follow up to the placement of the tube. I can understand that on the physicians behalf but if it was placed outpt hosp. but removed in an ASC GI suite, can the ASC bill for the facility fee for the removal?
