Know there has been discussions about this and I have read the coding clinics and CPT assistant on CPT codes 64646 and 20552. Am still confused. Our hospital does Botox injections into the pelvic floor muscles. I have read pelvic floor muscles are not trunk muscles and therefore the information advises to use CPT 20552. Our physicians have stated these are not Trigger point injections. CPT code 20552 are for trigger point injections. Would we use CPT 64646 because they are not trigger point injections even though the Botox injections are made into the Levator muscle PFM? (Levator ani muscle is a key component of the pelvic floor muscles) Do the physicians need to state in every op report these are not trigger point injections? Thank you for de-confusing!
