I work at a Peds office and we bill for these assessments all the time. One of our providers recently asked if we could bill for them separately. For instance, a patient came in for a consult on 3/4 and were given the forms to complete and return. We received them back on 3/9/26, which is when the doctor reviewed and signed them. Can we still bill for them even though the office visit was already billed out? If so, should they be billed under the 3/4 visit or can we bill as a new encounter?

As far as I know, reviewing the assessments is included in the original billing, similar to how a lab charge can't be billed twice for doing the lab AND reading the results.
We didn't bill for it during the original billing since they weren't completed at the time. They returned the forms a few days later. Can we still bill for them even though the office visit was already billed out? I'm new to coding and still have a lot of questions!! Thanks!
