I would appreciate help on determining the timing instructions for physical therapy.


If you have a treatment time of 30 minutes that equals two units of billing and the therapist does: Range of motion for 20 minutes, Ultrasound for 5 minutes and massage for 5 minutes -

would the correct codes be: 97110 and then for the other unit of time would you code another 97110 or one of the other modalities?

You would bill 2 units of 97110, which was for the 20 minutes of ROM and the 5 minutes of massage, but you cannot bill the modality 97035 (US) b/c only 5 minutes was administered and you need at least 8 minutes to bill a unit.
