We are a CAH with a Physical Therapy Dept. We do not have a DME license. The PT department utilizes items such as sock aides, shoe horns, dressing sticks, etc. and charges them under a 270 revenue code. My opinion is these should only be billed utilizing a GY modifier and need the required HCPCS code. Am I correct with this?

Also, they fabricate braces and splints. Again, they have been entering the charge under a standard 270 revenue code with no HCPCS code. Again, I feel this is a DME issue and we do not have a DME license.

In general, I need guidance on how to bill supplies and orthotics through this department. Thank you so much in advance!
