Hi All,

We had a physician assist a midwife during a vaginal delivery. Midwife is not from our practice. Should we bill the delivery with the assistant surgery modifier 80 even though technically speaking this is not a surgery rather a procedure?
 
You would bill for code for vaginal delivery only 59409-80 (or 59612-80 if VBAC). Both codes permit -80 modifier. You wouldn't bill 59400-80 since you did not provide antepartum & postpartum care.
