I would like to know if anyone knows how to bill the Kenalog J3301 with the correct amount of units. I know how many units should be billed however Medicare is denying 12 units and 24 units. We do bilateral shoulder injections and the physician puts 12 units on Kenalog in each shoulder. So far we have tried 12 units and put it twice and we have also tried 24 units and they have also denied. CMS will not tell me the MUE on this injection and it is also not listed on CMS website.

Does anyone know the MUE / units limitation for Kenalog?

thanks!!!

They are denying for MUE? That's the denial reason?

The most my PCP docs have billed is 8 units for 80 mg injections (40mg in each shoulder). I do know that I have to make sure they choose UN for unit and not ML or Medicare will deny. I also have to put in the description of the service on J3301 to state how many mg was given.

Hope someone else can help.
