PICC line exchange
We had a patient who came in for PICC line exchange access was lost to the cut end of PICC line. Several attempts were made with blunt dissection with a clamp an attempt was made under fluoroscopic guidance to capture the end of the PICC line. Unsuccessful. Incisions (several different times) were done but unsuccessful not able to retrieve. Patient was transferred out.
The question is: Is the PICC line exchange coded with the -74 modifier, ALSO can the attempt(s) at retrieving the "foreign body" be coded even if we were unable to do so?
