Hello,

I have a question about coding a diagnosis for placenta testing. Our pathologists (I work for an independant lab) receive placentas to evaluate when there are clinical indications of a potential problem with the baby/fetus or birth process (meconium, non-reasssuring heart tones, etc.) If these results turn up negative, how would one code the ICD-9 codes. Is the placenta associated with the mother or with the fetus?

Thanks!
