Today one of our OBGYN's was performing a ablation w/d&c, during the
procedure the uterus was punctured. The OBGYN changed to laparoscopy, and
called for a general surgeon to help with the closure of the wound. One of
our general surgeon's went in to the OR and placed a stitch, then proceeded
to observe to see if this controlled the bleeding. In the meantime he was
called away because his surgical case was ready to go, so another surgeon
from the practice took over. He also had to place a stitch or two. So two
questions: 1. Is there a code for this type of procedure; and 2. Should
this be billed with modifier 66 (for surgical team)??
There is no operative report as of yet.
