Does anyone know if NDC#'s can be handwritten on a HCFA? I had one payer reject it because it was handwritten although now, I cannot find that rejection letter and my employer insists that since you can handwrite modifiers on a HCFA that you can handwrite NDC#'s. With everything being electronic these days I didn't think you could handwrite anything on a claim form. Can someone please help me with this issue? Thanks

All of our payers require the ndc# to be electronically on the claim. Either on the line item detail or in box 19 of the HCFA.
We have one payer that does allow us to hand write the amount wasted on the claim and submit on paper but the ndc# is not allowed to be written.
