I have a physician who is planning an excision of a perineal abscess who I have to get a pre-auth for so I don't have an op note yet. The patient has had several I & D's of the abscess in the office and now we are planning a surgical excision. I cannot find a code that would pertain to a male patient. Any ideas? Thank you!

This is not my specialty by any means, but look at 46040 or 54700. I would look at all the male genital system incision codes to see if you can narrow it down. Ask the provider exactly where the abscess is located to help you find a specific anatomical area.

Hmm, this is a tough one... maybe an exicision of a benign lesion? Does it involve the scrotum any, if so what about scrotum resection?
